Sorry if you have not heard from us.

We are having problems with downloading information to site.  Lack of mobile coverage doesn't help.  Please be patient we will get information to you as and when.

23.05.09

An early start!  Stop at Malham last night and need to be picked up at 07.15 to be taken to Edale.  All a bit disappointed about breakfast - only continental - don't start cooking until 08.00.

Left Dixie's car before heading out on a bit of a hairy long drive with a vehicle change at Holmfirth: from a VW transport - to a Ford Focus estate which was a bit tight. Eventually started walking about 10.35.

A overcast day with a cool to cold wind until late afternoon. A long day with loads of climbing including up a very steep section known as Jacob's ladder. Bleak, bleak peat bog, moorland with stone pavings in some places, otherwise we were tramping through mud (they have a lot of rain up here).  On over boulders, loose stones, large rocks etc. A very steep descent to B&B which is comfortable but no en suite, showers are great, however, in wet rooms.  Tomorrow.  An early start certainly "only" 13.8 mile", 2645 feet of ascent.  Very steep between mile 2 and 3.

24.05.09

Woke to a brilliant morning, clear wall to wall blue skies. We all had a good night in rooms separted from main house.  A superb evening meal and an excellent farmhouse breakfast before leaving at 09.00 hours.

A steep, long and rough climb early in the day followed by deep wet peat areas, steep descents and other climbs.  All in all a very good day in brilliant sunshire, hope it lasts.   Scenery is magnificent with wide views from the top of the escarpment before descending  and away from Derbyshire into South Yorkshire.

16.3 miles tomorrow with 2460 feet of ascent mostly just before the end of the day which is a bummer.

25.05.09

Another lovely day.  Left 09.00 after a superb breakfast at Wellcroft House at Standedge.  The welcome and hospitality extended by Susan and Eric as outstanding.

Another long day of ups and downs, boulders and peat mud but some good walking too.  Went over M62 near the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire. A great pint at a pub we passed (the first so far)

How are we?  We are tired but happy with progress and looking forward to the coming days, just 14 more.  Trouble is the weather here changes so, rain tomorrow and what about tomorrow?  14.9 miles and 2513 fee ascent som mean looking ups with 2375 feet of descent, hopefully it wont be too wet.

Hi, Mel. Just to show I'm reading your blog and protecting my financial interest! I'd also like a bit more scientific explanation than your broad interpretation of the landscape, please, rather than just 'stone paving'. You obviously were not listening when I've talked to you about geology !

    Hi Mel,
yes, I have been reading your blog and very interesting it is too. Glad things are going well in spite of the weather. The highlight of the day seems to be the pack ups! Looking forward to more up dates. Love Cathryn x
