Corby Walking Festival - Further Details Announced
25.09.09
Following the success of this years Festival, the first of its
type for the area, May Day Bank Holiday weekend, the
1st, 2nd and 3rd of May 2010 are
the dates for the next Around Corby festival of walks, walking and
the benefits the past time can provide for health and wellbeing.
During the weekend there will be a wide selection circular walks
with distances varying from just a couple of miles up to seventeen
miles. Most will be on public footpaths and bridleways out in the
wonderful countryside surrounding Corby with others around East
Carlton Park and some routes within the town itself.
A complete thirty four mile circumnavigation over two days of
Corby Borough using the Around Corby walking route devised by
Gretton resident, Mel Jarvis, is planned. Most of the walks will be
lead by experienced leaders. However, some 'self lead' walks are
planned with detailed guidance notes supplied. It is anticipated
that routes friendly to wheelchair users and those with sight
difficulties will be available. The very popular themed walks such
as photography, wildlife and history will also be included in the
programme.
The Mayor of Corby, Councillor Mary Butcher has said she will
open the Festival on Saturday May 1st at East Carlton
Park. For walkers and none walkers alike, within the park on the
day there will be entertainment, displays, trade stands, and
exhibitors all who will provide a great deal of interest for
visitors of all ages.
It's possible that during the Festival weekend, or for that
matter at any other time, the area surrounding Corby, including the
Welland valley, the countryside and villages, pretty stone built
cottages and lovely gardens plus excellent cafés and public houses
can be tried and tested.
The Around Corby walking festival is supported by Corby Borough
Council and other local organisations including the
Northamptonshire area of the Ramblers.
