The 2010 'Around Corby' Walking Festival

May 1st, 2nd & 3rd this year was a weekend of over thirty walks with lengths from 3/4 of a mile (1.2 km) up to 18 miles (25 km) including a circumnavigation of the complete 35 mile (50 km) 'Around Corby' walking route.

All of the walks were across the terrific rolling countryside surrounding the modern and expanding town of Corby almost in the centre of England with, it is said, over 30 million people living within 100 miles.

Over three hundred walkers participated in the varying programme, which can be viewed by clicking on the link below. As can be seen, it contained enough for those who simply enjoy walking for pleasure, relaxation and exercise but shorter walks were included for those who prefer just gentle strolls. In addition, themed walks were a feature with photography, history and wildlife included. In addition, a Nordic Walking demonstration was held on the Saturday afternoon in East Carlton Park, just to the west of Corby.

The Weather - What Was it Like? For the start of the coldest May for many years and a depressing forecast, the weather was, in the main, very good. The opening day dawned bright but cool though it warmed up as the day progressed. And it was pretty well the same over the following two days except for a few sharp showers including a hail shower on the Monday. But walkers are prepared. One of the major attractions of walking in the UK is the different weather conditions. It all adds to the delight of walking generally.

Besides all those that helped with organisation and especially the terrific walk leaders, thanks also to :- George Alan, Old Post Office Square, Corby for the supply of Tabbards for the walk leaders www.georgealan.co.uk, Eggbox Graffics for design and other assistance www.eggboxgraphics.co.uk, Nordis Signs for the supply of highway quality road-side signs, tel : 01604 596910 and Helix Software for this site www.helixsoftware.co.uk MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR A GREAT AROUND CORBY WALKING FESTIVAL
